  • What is paddleboarding?
Stand-up Paddle Boarding is one of the best ways to get out and enjoy the water. The sport began as an ancient Hawaiian tradition that was reintroduced to the world in the mid-60’s and has since become the fastest growing board sport in the world, largely credited to the fact that it’s pretty easy to learn!
  • Do I need experience to try a stand-up paddle board (SUP)?
No prior experience is necessary to enjoy a day out SUP-ing in Kodiak. Almost everyone who rents from us are first timers or novices. We love catering to families and beginners, and our paddle boards are perfect for them because they a quite stable. However, you should be physically fit enough to be able to get to a standing position from your hands and knees. Participants should also not have any balance issues. Be careful of ocean currents, strong winds and weather.
  • How old do I have to be to rent a paddle board?
You must be 13 or older to rent a paddleboard. Anyone under the age of 18 who wants to rent a paddle board unaccompanied by an adult must first have their parents print out and sign a Release Form. (Be sure that all parts of the form are filled in completely, including any necessary initialing at the bottom of the pages.) Parents must then email Shoreline Rentals to let us know that you signed the form. Due to the inherent risks involved with paddling on the sea, all participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult, except by prior arrangement with Shoreline Rentals management. Parents must use their own discretion when taking boards away for use on freshwater, and anyone who may be using the rented paddle board must first sign our Release Form. All rentals are required to have a Rental Agreement signed by an adult, and renters are responsible for any damage or loss to the equipment.
  • Can my young child go paddle boarding?
Age limits for paddle-boards are 18 and over, or 13 and older with an accompanying parent or legal guardian per teen. At this time we don't allow young children on our paddle-boards, and you may not have a child ride on a SUP with you. They are a one person craft. Remember that paddle-boards are a single occupancy craft and should be used based on the manufacturer’s recommendations. They are not made for two people.
  • What is the weight limit?
Our larger boards can support people up to approximately 240lbs. All our SUPs are intended for one person only. You may not bring a child to ride with you on paddle-boards.
  • What do I wear?
Wear whatever will make you the most comfortable while paddle boarding, given Kodiak weather conditions of the day. SUP-ing is a water sport and so you will want to wear clothing that you don't mind getting wet if you fall into the water. Depending on water temperature, we would recommend a wetsuit. Sunglasses, a towel and bug spray might come in handy. Bring a spare set of clothes to change into afterwards, in case you are wet.
  • Do you deliver?
Yes! We deliver boards for an extra fee; -In Town Delivery & Pick Up - $25 (includes Monashka Bay up to 3 Sisters) -Bells Flats & Coast Guard Base Area Delivery & Pick-Up $30
  • What happens if I am late for my reservation?
You may lose all, or part of your reservation depending on how busy the day is. We will try to accommodate you, but out of fairness to staff you might lose your reservation. Your reservation begins at the time you reserve the board for pick up. If it is not picked up or you are not at designated meet up location within a 15-minute window we reserve the right to forfeit your reservation. Your reservation begins at the time you reserve the board, not when when you actually begin paddling.
  • What is your cancellation policy?
If you wish to cancel your rental for any reason, we require written notification. Our cancellation policy is as follows: - Cancel 7 or more days prior to reservation for full refund. - Cancel 3-6 days prior to reservation for 50% refund. - Cancel 1-2 days prior & same day reservation cancelations will result in no refund or credit. - We don't offer pro-rated refund for early returns or late pick-up. - No refunds due to travel or weather delays. - No shows will be charged full price.
